Vastu remedies without demolition

Fix doshas with colours, mirrors, salt and plants — no breaking walls.

Vastu remedies without demolition

The biggest myth about Vastu is that fixing it means breaking walls. In reality, most Vastu defects (doshas) can be balanced with simple, non-structural remedies — colours, mirrors, salt, plants and symbols. Here are the gentle corrections we recommend most often for existing homes and rentals.

Colour corrections

Colour is one of the easiest Vastu tools. Use light blues and greens in the North and East, warm earthy tones in the South-West, and whites or creams in the North-East. The right colour can rebalance a zone without moving a single wall.

Mirrors to redirect energy

Strategically placed mirrors on North or East walls can virtually 'extend' a missing corner or amplify light and prosperity. Never place mirrors facing the bed, the main door or the pooja space.

Salt and water cleansing

Rock salt absorbs negative energy. Keep a small bowl of sea salt in problem corners and replace it weekly. Mopping floors with a pinch of salt in the water clears stagnant energy across the whole home.

Plants and the five elements

Healthy green plants in the North and East invite growth. A small fountain in the North-East adds the water element. Lamps and candles add fire in the South-East. Balancing the five elements gently corrects many doshas.

Symbols and yantras

A Vastu Pyramid, Shree Yantra or Swastik can neutralise specific defects when placed correctly. These are powerful, affordable remedies for rented homes where structural changes aren't possible.

Quick wins

Try these this week

  • Start with decluttering — it's the simplest and most powerful remedy.
  • Use a Vastu Pyramid in defective zones you can't structurally change.
  • Refresh salt bowls and plants regularly to keep remedies effective.
